Magavern Attorney Elected to Lead New York State Bar Association

Sharon Stern Gerstman, of counsel to Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP, a Buffalo New York law firm established in 1826, has been elected president-elect designee of the 74,000-member New York State Bar Association.Ms. Gerstman begins a one-year term as president-elect on June 1, 2016 and will become president on June 1, 2017.

Ms. Gerstman concentrates her practice in the areas of mediation and arbitration, litigation, and appellate practice.Before joining the Magavern firm, Ms. Gerstman was Court Attorney/Referee in the New York State Supreme Court.She has taught New York Practice at the University of Buffalo Law School for 28 years.She is co-author of New York Civil Practice (James Publishing), and is on the editorial board of Weinstein Korn and Miller, New York Civil Practice: CPLR.

A 34-year member of the State Bar and currently its treasurer, Ms. Gerstman previously served on the Executive Committee as an Eighth Judicial District vice-president.She is a member of the House of Delegates, Finance Committee, Civil Practice Laws & Rules Committee, Dispute Resolution Section, and Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section.

A resident of Amherst, Gerstman graduated from Brown University and earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.She received a master's degree from Yale Law School.
