Raymond W. Walter
Raymond W. Walter is an associate at the Buffalo, New York law firm of Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP, practicing in the areas of estates, trusts and elder law.
He counsels and advises a wide range of clients regarding estate and long term care planning, Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, Living Wills, Guardians, and Medicaid. He assists clients with sophisticated estate planning needs, employing tools such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Charitable Trusts and Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts. He also works with clients to protect their assets from long-term care expenses, including Medicaid planning and applications.
Mr. Walter’s background combines legal, business and governmental experience. On November 8, 2011 he was elected to the New York State Assembly, where he serves the 146th District, including the Towns of Amherst and Pendleton. He previously served as an Erie County Legislator for the 4th Legislative District, representing the Towns of Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, Cheektowaga, and the Village of Akron.
During law school, Mr. Walter clerked for the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District, and for an area law firm, after serving as a research assistant for the Erie County Charter Revision Commission. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Walter held the positions of business manager, finance manager and sales manager over a 10-year career with regional auto dealers.

He is a member of the Bar Association of Erie County and a coach for Amherst Youth Basketball. He previously served on the Board of the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation, Inc. and on the County Executive's Council on Economic Development, the Erie County Cultural Resources Advisory Board and the Amherst Traffic Safety Board.
Mr. Walter, an alumnus of State University of New York at Geneseo, received a juris doctor degree, magna cum laude, from University at Buffalo Law School.
