Mr. Walter counsels and advises a wide range of clients regarding Estate and Long-term Care Planning, Business Succession, Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, Living Wills, and Medicaid. He assists clients with sophisticated estate planning needs, employing tools such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Insurance Trusts, and Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts. As well as clients looking to protect their assets from long-term care expenses, including Medicaid planning.
Mr. Walter has extensive experience in MHL Article 81 Guardianship matters. In addition to representing private clients, he has served, upon the appointment of the Court, as Court Evaluator, Attorney for the Alleged Incapacitated Person, and Guardian. He also assists the firm’s Health and Municipal Law practice groups on a wide range of matters, including fair hearings, HIPPA compliance, municipal finance, and land use.
Mr. Walter’s background combines legal, business and governmental experience. On November 8, 2011 he was elected to the New York State Assembly, where he served the 146th District, including the Towns of Amherst and Pendleton until December 31, 2018. He previously served as an Erie County Legislator for the 4th Legislative District, representing the Towns of Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, Cheektowaga, and the Village of Akron.
During law school, Mr. Walter clerked for the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District, and for an area law firm, after serving as a research assistant for the Erie County Charter Revision Commission. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Walter held the positions of business manager, finance manager and sales manager over a 10-year career with regional auto dealers.
Ray is the proud father of two boys. Raymond, who is a student at the University of Akron, and Jack who attends Casey Middle School.
